and I recognized you

and I recognized you
from the moment I walked into you,
dancing eyes and nervous feet.

welcome.
I have missed your warmth beside me
from the maple time we whiled away
as we shed our years like falling leaves,
sinking into earth under dappled sun.

and here you are again,
new eyes and
trembling hands;
cheeks flush from
breathing in the sky.

here, take my hand.
let us wander down this path,
tripping over words and
learning the shape of each other's skin again
until we find a place to sit and watch
the sunlight dip beneath the trees.
